IBP Professional Training Program

Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP) Institutes offer post graduate training programs for mental health professionals who are licensed to practice psychotherapy (or in a graduate program to obtain a license). While academic degree granting programs teach the necessary information you need as a psychotherapist, social worker, psychologist, psychiatrist, etc., IBP training teaches, demonstrates and supervises an empathic body-mind or somatic system of therapeutic implementation.

IBP draws from theoretical perspectives including: Object Relations, Analytical Therapy, Self Psychology, Gestalt Therapy, Reichian Therapy, yoga, Transpersonal Psychotherapy and more.

Trainees engage in hands-on practice with supervised sessions and case consultation. For the beginning therapist, IBP training provides an understandable map of the somatic (body-mind) therapeutic process and a solid professional foundation.

IBP training, for even the most competent therapist, cultivates new skills and fosters a deeper understanding of each client through body awareness and skillful multi-faceted tracking. IBP provides both somatic and psychological knowledge, understanding, experience and the tools to help you get right to the core of client's issues and the therapeutic implementations for transformation and well being. Students experience profound life changes for themselves as well.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

In our 400-hour practitioner curriculum program, we teach licensed mental health professionals how to navigate this seemingly impossible journey with their clients. With eleven international institutes in the United States, Switzerland, Germany, and Canada, we have been teaching, supervising and 'mentoring' professionals since 1981. We are licensed by the State of California to provide Post Secondary Education and certified to grant Continuing Education Credit. In Switzerland and Canada where government and professional societies must officially recognize a therapeutic modality, IBP is the only certified and approved body oriented psychotherapy.

Academic standards set by the State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences are maintained in states and countries where these standards are more limited or non-existent.

We are proud of the professional standards of our institutes and dedicated teachers. Each teacher is a licensed, highly experienced professional who has also completed a three-year IBP Certified Practitioner Training program and three years of advanced IBP Certified Teacher Training.

TRAINING INFORMATION

Classes are didactic with experiential learning. Classes are taught by IBP Certified Teachers who are licensed to practice medicine, psychotherapy or counselling. They are seasoned clinical therapists and lecturers. On our teaching staff are many experienced educators. Each class has several teaching assistants. Teaching Assistants are Certified IBP Practitioners in the Teacher Training Program.

Program formats vary. Some institutes offer weekly classes; others offer weekend or week-long retreat experiences.

IBP Central Institute professional training groups meet seven weekends per year. The mental health professional program is a three-year, 400-hour format. The allied professional program is a 200-hour format.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for admission, mental health professionals must be licensed to practice psychotherapy or counseling. Graduate students in the mental health fields may enroll if they are currently enrolled in a program of study that leads to licensing.

Allied professionals must have a master's degree or equivalent and be licensed and/or accepted by their professional society.

Applicants are considered on an individual basis.
